Travelling to Dhaka

As we started helping the Maria Cristina Foundation (MCF), we knew that we would visit Dhaka in the near future. We wanted to visit the children that we are supporting and we wanted to meet all other children supported by the MCF.

It was also very clear for us that we could make much more out of our visit. So we decided to make a small charity project out of it.

As we were thinking about how to do it, we got an idea.

Our target is to show the world the situation of all those children in the slums of Dhaka. We strongly believe that if we make it transparent, there will be more people who will help.

We want to achieve this, by showing, how a ten year old child, from the slums, sees the world. Our visit in Dhaka will help us experience the life in Dhaka and to create 15 (or maybe some more) stories and photography’s showing the world through a child’s eyes. Culmination of our small project should be an exhibition of our work.

With ideas in our head we started preparing our trip.

After several discussions with Maria, Jewel and Shewly from the MCF, it was clear which topics were needed for our project.

I am sure that all of them will touch your soul. And some of them will be very exotic.

Our Equipment that we took to Dhaka

Although the major target is the exhibition, we didn’t want to come to Dhaka with Empty hands.
We bought sweets and toys for the children, some sweets for parents and 10 smart phones for older children and a small netbook for the MCF office in Dhaka. Additionally we took some donated shoes with us.

And even more, 100 USD will be used to buy toiletries like lice shampoos, deodorants or others.

As we arrived today at the airport, our checked in language was 65 kg and our cabin baggage was 14kg. And we had two backpacks with our laptops and sweets, with for sure 8 kg additional.
    That’s a lot for 2 people.

    Around 87kg of baggage

After explaining to the lady at the Flydubai check in counter, that we are doing it for charity reasons, she was so kind, that we didn’t need to pay any overweight (Thanks Flydubai ☺)

We are really excited about our trip

After 5 Hours of flying we reached Dhaka.

Getting visa at arrival was very easy and fast. In just 15 minutes we were done. The next stage should be the passport control. We reached the end of the long queue and we just thought that this would take some time. But then we saw somebody, holding a sign with our names, trying to call us. He told us to follow him. We did, so we passed without any control. This was really good.

As we came out of the Airport, 5-6 Children and Jewel from the MCF were waiting for us. It was so nice to meet them.

We stay in the Hotel Milina, which is very near to the community where the children supported by the MCF are living.

Although it was late, we got warm dinner served in our room.

Now we have to take a rest and to prepare us for the day tomorrow.
